Dressing up in cardboard boxes

Leaving early due to concerns about the traffic (as the schools restart tomorrow for their new academic year and many children board), we returned to Bombo for church. The pastors and congregation were very kind in thanking us for the medical work that we had done and several people stood up to "testify" about how their lives had been changed! An example of some of the treated ailments is that the man with a tibial mal-union fracture stated that he could now walk as if he was walking on "springs" with the help of his new orthopaedic boot! Another, relatively simpler example, but still causing great joy, is that an elderly lady's constipation was treated!!

After many people stood up and explained what they were grateful for, Pauline (very bravely) led a service about putting on the armour of God... She demonstrated this by dressing up Pastor Robert in armour made up of cardboard boxes! After this, as many of us as possible tried to crowd under a mosquito love as a symbol for God's love covering people. Pauline also strongly encouraged the congregation to use mosquito nets as we found many people who were suffering with malaria in Bombo during the clinics.

After the service, many of us spent time with the children we sponsor and I got to spend time with Shakira, who's birthday was yesterday! I have given Pastor Robert money for a cake for her and he plans to surprise her with a party later tonight. Unfortunately, we had to return to the hotel fairly soon after church finished due to fears that it would take a very long time to return to Kampala, through the school traffic. Thankfully, it took us only 1.5hr instead of the predicted 3! It normally takes us about 45mins however and sitting in a swelteringly hot bus going over yet more roads covered in potholes after yesterday's travels was still slightly tiresome!

I am now back at the hotel and trying to finalise connections for attending Butabika Mental Health Hospital tomorrow, before we have a team meeting about any necessary follow ups from clinics. It is very nice to have a relaxing evening for once!
